This set has six chairs, including a master's chair with arms, a table with two pull-out extensions, and a beautiful buffet or sideboard. The pieces are marked 'Clar Wal.'  This refers to Claro Walnut, a high quality furniture grade of walnut (see additional info below.) The entire set is constructed of solid wood, no veneer.
 

Additional info gleaned from the net:

Grand Rapids Chair Co was formed in 1872 making chairs and selling lumber. They used labor from the reform school in Lansing to cane chair seats and backs. In the early 20th century they made Mission furniture and several lines of heavy European revival furniture. In the late 1920s they introduced an Art Deco line and made Scandanavian looking furniture in the 1950s.

From the early 1920s to the late 1940s the label was a square frame of molding with chamfered corners and block type that used a smooth triangle for the "O". In 1947 the label became a simple rectangle with chiseled lettering. 

Today the company is one of America's leading providers of tables, chairs and barstools for use in various settings - education, food service, hospitality, health care, office and more. 

"Claro" is a Spanish word meaning clear or bright, and the common name "claro walnut" is usually used to refer to the wood cut from the lower bole (stump) of orchard walnut trees, especially on the West coast of the US.

These trees are a mixture of species, created by grafting an English walnut (Juglans regia) scion to a rootstock of one of our native walnut species -- either black walnut (Juglans nigra) or California walnut (Juglans hindsii).  The wood near the graft tends to be variegated in color, with beautiful marble-like, dark brown and tan swirls in the figure.

Claro walnut has working properties similar to black walnut. It works well with hand and power tools, has good strength and bending properties, and takes finishes well. It is used mainly for high-quality furniture and gunstocks.
